Day of Care - June 5, 2013

Yesterday afternoon we participated in the community event, Day of Care. Since we have built a relationship with Creighton Lodge through visiting them throughout the year, we knew we wanted to help them out on this day. We were put to work raking, weeding and bagging the debris. It turned out to be a beautiful day and with some lessons on how to properly rake and pull out a weed, the students did an excellent job! It was exciting to see the kids partake in the event. They really step up to the plate everytime we go there and their break in the shade with juice and cookies was well deserved! The ladies were very appreciative and talked to them all about how at the lodge they are welcome to visit anytime throughout the summer, that it doesn't just have to be during school time.

Today we talked about "paying it forward" and some of the students mentioned that this is a way they would like to pay it forward during the summer, by going to visit the residents. I sure hope some of them actually do because they are great little vistors when they are there!

Water Day Challenge

On Friday the grade 4 and 5 classes took part in the Water Day Challenge that was put on by a group of grade 6/7/8 students. These students have been working hard on projects around the theme of global citzenship. This group in particular created a variety of stations for the kids to go through that simulate what it is like in third world countries that have a lack of clean drinking water.

Here are some of the stations:
